Who is Freddy The Reporter?

A bold, creative storyteller capturing the lens of the world one vision at a time.

Frederick Quinn, aka “Freddy the Reporter,” is a journalist from St. Rose, Louisiana. His passion for storytelling first stemmed from the world of professional wrestling. He has been an avid fan since he was 6 years old; however, it was at the age of 12 when he truly connected with the sport. He heard an in-ring promo by John Cena that centered on never giving up, no matter the circumstances, which resonated with what he was going through as a youth navigating the world.

Fast-forward a year later, and Freddy was introduced to a whole new world of storytelling: broadcast news. Watching the news with his family was a norm, but something sparked in him when he would watch the entertainment news show, “The 504,” hosted by reporter Sheba Turk. The show featured unique guests and unconventional stories about all things New Orleans. Tuning in inspired Freddy with the dream of connecting with audiences around the globe.

ENTRY TO BROADCAST

His pursuit of a career in broadcast television began in college while attending Xavier University of Louisiana. In 2019, he secured an internship at New Orleans Access Television (NOA-TV), where he learned set design, camera operation, editing, and even programming. Yearning for more, he went on to join the student media department, where he served as a host, personality, actor, producer, and camera operator, featured on shows including Questions: Finish the Lyrics, Song Association, Xplicit, and XUTV Silent Library. However, still struggling on his path to journalism and with other personal matters, Freddy withdrew from the university to figure things out.

He was convinced the dream had died. With God being a big part of Freddy’s life thanks to his grandmother, who died when he was a teenager, he remembered her teachings, instilling that faith was forever. He unlocked that motivation to pursue his dream of being a journalist, and it led him to reenroll at the University of New Orleans to complete his degree. Only this time, he vowed to do it differently.

LEARNING THE ROPES

He put his dream first and was yet again on the hunt for just a shot in broadcast news. He got his foot in the door by joining the film club and becoming a reporter for the returning school newspaper, Driftwood. In January 2024, he found himself itching to get a taste of a real newsroom and applied for a digital news internship at WGNO. He completed the internship and was able to get valuable experience searching for and reporting on stories, as well as being a featured photographer.

Later, he completed another internship at Fox 8 WVUE, learning the ins and outs behind the scenes. At the same time, Freddy continued his work outside the traditional newsroom and completed the Community Reporting Fellowship at Lede New Orleans, which involved interviewing community leaders and shooting a documentary on a historic landmark in New Orleans, Congo Square.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES

After graduating from the University of New Orleans, Freddy continued his journey into journalism. He landed a role as a Digital Reporter at WBRZ in Baton Rouge, covering topics such as crime and education; however, he soon found himself back in the Big Easy. Being a reporter on the big screen for a major network is his goal, but until then, he continues to produce his own content, changing the world one story at a time.

Remember if he can do it, you can too!
